Our Mission
Our Mission
There are so many aspects to a life in obedience to Jesus; so I believe that our mission is simply to follow Him. On top of this, or in combination with it, the Holy Spirit gives individual believers various gifts, some of which we would call “supernatural,” for the benefit of the church. We can, therefore, expect that there will be a variety of different missions both for the benefit of the church and the community.
I like Rick Warren’s idea which states that we should build the church based on the greatest commandments and the great commission which Jesus gave the disciples.
When asked about which was the greatest of all the commandments Jesus replied, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and mind and the other is to love your neighbour as you love yourself. (Matthew 22:36-40)
The great commission is the statement Jesus left with his disciples just before He ascended into heaven. He told them that all authority in heaven and on earth had been given to Him and that the disciples were to go and make followers of Jesus throughout the world, baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything he had commanded them. He assured them and us that He, Jesus is with us to the very end of the age! (Matthew 28:16-20)
These two great statements, the commandments and the commission, provide us with the mission of: worship (love of God), fellowship (love between us), evangelising (telling others about Jesus),
and teaching in every area of our lives as we live a new life in Jesus.
Simply put our Mission is to follow Jesus!
